www.disabledparentsnetwork.org.uk

STAR RATING 4/5

This is not a good-looking or "flash" site, but it does contain an enormous amount of useful information for disabled people who are, or hope to be, parents, writes Sarah Baalham.

The "atmosphere" is positive and supportive, with parents sharing their experiences and advice; a discussion forum; and details of the Disabled Parents Network (DPN) telephone and e-mail helplines.

There is useful information for parents about how to gain support from social services, and advice on welfare benefits.

The information on direct payments is especially good, with parents sharing practical advice and suggestions. It is particularly refreshing to see a balanced view of social workers, with parents reporting both good and less good experiences.

The site also has a useful "Professionals and Researchers" section which includes details of training provided by DPN and information about suppliers of specialist equipment for parents with a disability. There is a massive amount of information on this site and it is well worth a browse.
