The chair of the Zahid Mubarek inquiry is to visit Feltham Young Offender Institution at the start of the inquiry's second phase on July 4, writes Amy Taylor.
Mr Justice Keith and his panel will assess how things have changed at the establishment since Mubarek's murder by his cellmate Robert Stewart in March 2000.
The Feltham visit will be followed by visits to Pentonville, Wormwood Scrubs, Parkhurst, Wayland, Lancaster Farms, Altcourse and Hindley prisons.
The inquiry wants to hear the views of staff including governors and race relations officers on racism, the treatment of mentally disordered prisoners and the implementation of cell-sharing risk assessments.
The inquiry will also hold a number of focus groups and seminars.
It is hoped the chair will be able to hand over his report to
the Home Secretary by the end of the year.
