The national adoption register has placed 35 children in its first six months under the operation of Baaf Adoption and Fostering, writes Simeon Brody.
Almost 600 new children and 431 adoptive families have been referred to the register since December, when it was taken over from Norwood adoption agency, according to an interim report on the scheme.
The register, a database of children awaiting adoption and potential adopters, focuses on children who are finding it most difficult to find placements.
Baaf’s regional director for the central and northern region Erica Amende said the organisation had worked hard to make the register as accessible as possible and she was “thrilled” by the number of matches made so far.
Previous operator Norwood made 132 matches in total from August
2001 to November 2004.
