A couple accused of shaking their four-week-old daughter to death were cleared of murder last week.

Kantharupan Muragamoorthy shook baby Asha in a bid to revive her after his partner, Devika Sabaratnam, discovered her lifeless and cold. Muragamoorthy also pressed on Asha's chest to restart her breathing but she later died in hospital. When a post mortem found that Asha had more than 20 rib fractures her parents were charged with murder.

The couple's defence barristers argued that the injuries could have been caused by paramedics' efforts to resuscitate her.
