TEAMWISE, USING RESEARCH EVIDENCE: A PRACTiCAL GUIDE FOR TEAMS
Celia Atherton, Mo Barrat and Rhiannon Hodson, Research into Practice

STAR RATING: 4/5

Deceptive in size, only 40 pages and a CD-Rom, the Teamwise handbook is wide-ranging in its scope, writes Marjory Booth.

Working from the premise that evidence-informed practice (EIP) improves outcomes for children and their families, the tools and resources that have been developed in the handbook could also be used in adult care services and multi-disciplinary teams.

The handbook is supplemented by additional reading materials, resources, and a discussion forum through a highly informative, easily navigable website (www.rip.org.uk/teams). The CD-Rom highlights practice examples from four teams that discuss the benefits and challenges of introducing EIP, but was thin on measurable outcomes.

A pity, since attention to this would have reinforced the benefits of what was clearly a very positive process.

Teamwise addresses the view that EIP is a tool in the government's modernising agenda, curtailing professional autonomy, and challenges teams to move out of comfort zones.

It is a valuable resource for teams who wish to use EIP in their work.

Marjory Booth is team manager, Scottish Care Commission
