The latest appointments from the social care sector

Former work and pensions minister Chris Pond is new chief executive of charity One Parent Families. Before becoming an MP in 1997, Pond was director of the Low Pay Unit.

At Birmingham Council Tony Howell is to be director of children’s services, moving from his post of director for learning and culture. Peter Hay, currently director for social care and health, will be director of adult services. Both new roles start in April 2006.

The London borough of Sutton has appointed Paul Martin as new chief executive. He joins from the civil service and previously worked for 20 years in local government.



Fiona Denman
has joined Education Network as policy specialist in children's services and social care. The network promotes education within local authorities.


David Crepaz-Keay has joined the Mental Health Foundation as senior policy adviser on patient and public involvement, with a remit to
promote the views of service users. He was previously chief executive at Mental Health Media.

Kevan Collins is new corporate director (children's services) at Tower Hamlets Council in London. Dr Collins currently advises the government on primary education and is a former teacher in the east London borough.

Margaret Cox is newly appointed as principal reporter by the Scottish Children's Reporter Administration. She has been depute principal reporter at the youth justice body since 1995.

Nigel Druce, formerly social services adviser at the Improvement and Development agency, is new chair of Better Government for Older People’s executive partnership board. Terry Gorman will chair the organisation’s advisory committee.

Angela Glynn is to be national operations manager at Green Corns, private provider of residential care for children. She joins from Cheshire Council, where she was child protection officer.
