Lambeth cuts funds to charity projects Lambeth Council has been
criticised after announcing the closure of at least two voluntary
sector children's sector projects.
Anne Burnage, deputy director of the Catholic Children's Society,
which runs one of the projects, said the south London council had
sent a letter outlining its plans to close the project but had not
discussed it with her organisation beforehand.
The society's Home and Away project, which works with young people
who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, has received council
funding since 1994.

The Lambeth Family Assessment Services project run by children's
charity NCH is also being axed. The service, which began in 2003,
carries out assessments on complex children and family cases for
the council.
Both projects were told that they would have to close within six
months.
A Lambeth Council spokesperson said: "Like any local authority,
Lambeth regularly reviews services with our care providers. Lambeth
is committed to working with the voluntary sector and continues to
have contracts with a number of local and national care providers."
