Care home staff are priority for reforms

Residential social care should be made an additional priority in developing the children's workforce, according to the body in charge of driving the reforms.

The Children's Workforce Development Council said children's residential care was characterised by "recruitment difficulties, qualification targets not met, low morale and high staff turnover".

It made the recommendation in its response to a government consultation on the children's workforce strategy, which said the early years and foster care sectors should be the priority for reforms.
