Young people stall at transition stage

Young people stall at transition stage Many young people with special educational needs are making little or no progress in the transition to early adulthood, a new report reveals.

There are also "many opportunities" for them to "fall down the cracks between services" and more than one in 10 said they did not know how to find out about work, education or training opportunities.

The report points to "variation" in the provision of services such as further education colleges and Connexions in different parts of the country, and says systems to support transition have "not operated as well as they could" for many young people.

The report, for the Department for Education and Skills, is the latest part of a study of young people with special educational needs. It looks at their experiences and achievements aged 19 or 20.
