Charging regimes top complaints list

Local authority charging regimes and the NHS continuing care system have been the two biggest sources of complaints about residential care to care advice body NHFA this month. It had received around 1,000 calls this month, as of the start of this week, with 5.5 per cent of complaints covering council charging procedures and more than 4 per cent covering continuing care.

Paul Loom, NHFA's care advice line manager, said councils were either misinforming people or giving them insufficient information. He cited one social worker telling someone that councils would only fund people with assets worth £16,000 or less. The actual threshold is £20,500.
