If you are seriously committed to promoting the educational achievements of looked-after young people, to raising awareness and to interagency training, then consider this excellent training pack, writes Ken Campbell.

The authors bring the issues alive by involving real people - carers, social workers, teachers - interspersed with comments and perspectives from young people that are powerful and thought-provoking. Areas of potential difficulty are not ignored - placements, choice of school, personal education plans, interagency communication and the effectiveness of the "corporate parent".

The video is very well produced and supported by a clear and concise pack that clarifies the main messages from research and guidance. It provides stimulating exercises to work across the spectrum from those children with challenging behaviour to those successfully accessing and supporting higher education. An input from councillors and senior managers on the development of the corporate parenting culture would have been useful.

This video and training pack, making use of the views and voices of young people, is clear, relevant, stimulating and challenging. A worthwhile investment.
