The children’s commissioner for England questioned today at Community Care Live Children and Families whether there needed to be a media code of practice in order to address the disproportionate negative portrayal of young people, writes Amy Taylor from the conference.

Speaking at the conference in London, professor Al Aynsley-Green said that the demonisation of young people was a “major issue for society”.

He added that he had accompanied members of the youth parliament to see the independent communications regulator Ofcom and the Press Complaints Commission to raise the issue.

“We are asking for a bit more respect,” he said.

Aynsley- Green also went on to call for the “froth in the media” about the amount of power held by his role to be put to one side.
