Leading figures from the voluntary sector, social care and health have been appointed to a taskforce looking at helping charities win more contracts for care services.

The group includes Victor Adebowale, Stephen Burke, Cliff Prior, Clare Tickell and Jo Williams, the chief executives of Turning Point, Counsel and Care, Rethink, NCH and Mencap respectively.
The body reflects the government's drive to increase voluntary sector delivery of public services and an acknowledgement that short-term contracts are a barrier to this.

Announcing the taskforce's membership, care services minister Liam Byrne called for "additional flexible approaches to ensure the third sector has a central role in delivery".
