New evidence on 'Gladiator' emerges

New evidence about allegations that Zahid Mubarek was deliberately placed in a cell with his racist killer Robert Stewart as part of a "Gladiator" game has been given to the inquiry into his death, Community Care has learned.

The evidence has been submitted by Nigel Herring, chair of the Prison Officers Association's branch at Feltham Young Offender Institution. Herring denied he had instigated the "Gladiator" game during the inquiry.

An inquiry spokesperson confirmed this week it had received further "relevant" evidence about the allegations.

The evidence is expected to be made public before the inquiry report is given to the home secretary next year. The inquiry ended in October.
