A national charity is joining forces with the Conservative party in setting up a social justice policy group to help disadvantaged people.

Debbie Scott, chief executive of Tomorrow’s People, a charitable trust working with unemployed and homeless people, has been appointed the deputy chair of the group headed up by former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith.

The group, set up by new Tory leader David Cameron, will focus on areas including the treatment and rehabilitation of young people affected by drug and alcohol abuse, care of the disabled and older people.

It is also expected to look at empowering the voluntary sector, fostering social enterprise and encouraging neighbourhood renewal.
