The Social Care Institute for Excellence has won permission from the Charity Commission to pay its new chair a salary, contrary to standard third sector practice.

It has advertised for the two-day-a-week post at 30,000 a year, which is understood to be incumbent Jane Campbell's salary.

Scie was given dispensation to pay Campbell, who steps down from the role in March, and had to seek permission from the commission to give her successor a salary.
