A rail operator has launched an inquiry after the chair of the Disability Rights Commission was left stranded at a station last week.

Bert Massie, who is a wheelchair user, had booked a place and assistance with getting on a train from London Euston station to Liverpool but said he was told that staff were too busy to help him.

Massie said he was told to call the office of Network Rail, the company that manages the station, but on doing so staff were also unhelpful. He subsequently missed his train.

Network Rail said it had launched an investigation into the allegations.
