A senior department of health official has called on Sir Derek Wanless to make some firm recommendations on social care funding in his review, due to report next month.
National Director for Social Care Kathryn Hudson told Community Care Live Adult Care Services that Wanless’s conclusions would be taken very seriously by the DH.
Hudson said the government’s ambition to expand preventive services, which will be laid out in next weeks health and social care white paper, would not come at the expense of those with acute needs.
But she added that the case for extra investment would have to be backed by strong evidence.
