Probe into care of multiple murderer

A strategic health authority is to review the case of a man who murdered four people.

Daniel Gonzalez, 25, was convicted last week of murdering four people in September 2004. But his family said in a statement that services had failed him: "We too want answers to why, despite our incessant pleas to health services, social services and the police, Daniel was often turned away, passed from one group of professionals to another and left without the support and help he needed."

Gonzalez had been treated by the North West Surrey NHS Mental Health Partnership Trust, now the Surrey and Borders Partnership Mental Health Trust, for seven years.

It said: "These incidents were not predicted by a history of violence. For that reason the trust does not believe his actions could have been predicted."

Surrey and Sussex SHA will carry out the review.
