More people acquired NVQ and SVQ qualifications in social care and health in 2005 than in any year since 1999, according to new figures.
Almost 130,000 people acquired certificates in 2005, compared with less than 100,000 in 2004, research by the Employers’ Organisation for Local Government finds.
More than 200,000 people also registered for qualifications in 2005, a similar figure to 2004.
This figure included 540 people who signed up to the new NVQ Level 4 Managers in Residential Childcare, which launched in January 2005 to raise standards in children’s homes.
• The EO was dissolved on 31 March 2006, with its responsibilities for pay negotiations and pensions transferring to a new body called Local Government Employers, and its workforce development functions moving to the Improvement and Development Agency.
