Staff working with children in residential care should make greater use of restorative justice to deal with their behaviour and stop them going into custody, Rod Morgan, chair of the CC Live logo articleYouth Justice Board told Community Care Live delegates today.

He said that far more agencies should be involved in the schemes, where victims meet offenders face-to-face to decide how they should make amends for their crimes in the community.

Morgan cited barriers to expanding restorative justice including the lack of statutory powers to impose it as a criminal justice order "in its own right" in England, and a lack of resources available to youth justice workers.
