A long-term strategy for the adult’s and children’s social care workforce is to be developed, Skills for Care announced this month.

The strategy will be developed jointly with the Children’s Workforce Development Council, which will be focusing on the children’s workforce while Skills for Care looks at adult’s care workforce.

Over the next 18-months Skills for Care will develop a Sector Skills Agreement to map out the requirements for the workforce in the next five years.

The strategy will look at training and funding, and identify partner agencies to develop the workforce. It will also develop core skills and competences for adult care workers and simplify existing skills provision.

Andrea Rowe, chief executive of Skills for Care, said she was confident that the strategy “is a significant step towards developing the skills of the social care and children’s workforce to meet the need of adults and children using services, as well as employers.”
