The Welsh chief inspector of social services is leaving his post to fill the position of head of the NHS' Mid and West Wales regional office.

Graham Williams has held the post since March 1999 and since then has been commended for his positive promotion of social services. He was said to have helped generate a new profile for social services as a key local government service.

Minister for health and social services, Dr Brian Gibbons, enthused how Williams had made a valued contribution to the team.

He said:  “He has been a tireless champion for social services and has worked to improve delivery for vulnerable people in Wales.  He has provided consistently sound and objective advice.  I look forward to continuing to work with him in his important new role.”

Welcoming his new appointment, Ann Lloyd, Head of the Assembly government’s health and social services department and chief executive, NHS Wales, said: “His knowledge and experience will assist greatly the potential for greater collaborative working between health and social services and local government.” 

Williams will start work at his new position on June 19 and Richard Tebboth, currently deputy chief inspector, will take over his current job as acting chief inspector.
