Conservative leader David Cameron said today his party is committed to the
"concept" of Sure Start but would reform how the policy is implemented.
He backed the idea of providing parents with support to improve their
children's life chances, in a speech to the Local Government Association's
annual conference.
However, he said Sure Start programmes needed to work better with existing
services, particularly in the voluntary sector, rather than poach staff from
them.
