Community Care and the Barrow Cadbury Trust are staging a series of fringe meetings during the party conference season to lobby for more
support for young adults caught up in the criminal justice system.

Community Care and Back on Track campaign

Community Care launched the ‘Back on Track’ campaign in 2004 to call for improvements to the youth justice system. The most striking finding was that 18 to 21-year-olds were the most neglected group in terms of resources yet were the most vulnerable and likely to re-offend.

Barrow Cadbury Trust

The Barrow Cadbury Trust was set up in 1920 and aims to encourage a fair, equal, peaceful and democratic society. It makes grants to support groups, (usually registered charities) that are working to achieve their objectives. It aims to make grants that enable groups to act as catalysts of social change.

The independent Commission on Young Adults and the Criminal Justice System was established by the Barrow Cadbury Trust. The role of the Commission was to develop a way in which the criminal justice system can recognise the importance of the transition between adolescence and adulthood, to develop ideas about how the system can promote natural desistance from offending in young adults in transition, and to find a way in which the criminal justice system could better promote the life chances of young adults.
