Personal Development and Reflective Practice in a Learning Disability Service
Alice Bradley, BILD
ISBN 1904082971, £20
STAR RATING: 4/5
This book is geared mainly for leaders or senior workers in the learning difficulty field and covers all the major learning routes such as the Learning Disability Awards Framework (LDAF) and NVQ 4, writes Matt Dore.
The book looks daunting and long-winded but if used methodically it will enhance the reader’s ability to use reflective
practice in their job, and so improve the quality of service they provide.
The four chapters cover: a breakdown and history of what reflective practice is, personal development planning, how to implement the development plan, and how the process of learning from current research and practice within the field can effectively be put into practice.
One thing I’d like to stress is that time is needed to go through each chapter in a systematic way. There are good examples from people’s own work experience and activities to engage the learner in the quest to improve their working practice.
I would recommend this book to anyone working in the field, in view of the importance of improving practice through learning.
