Social services should be offered under the same roof as access to GPs and health services, health minister Lord Warner said today.
He urged councils and the NHS to join together to create “super-centres” to remove barriers between health and social care.
“The primary, community and social care of tomorrow cannot be delivered from the facilities of yesterday,” he told delegates at a national event for the NHS Local Improvement Finance Trust Lift scheme, which aims to bring in private investment for local health facilities.
Warner said it was “logical” for complementary care services to be located on the same site but this “often does not happen”.
More than 90 NHS Lift facilities are open to patients and another 70 are under construction.
