Giving parents the right to know whether their new partners were paedophiles would be a highly effective child protection policy change, sex crimes consultant Ray Wyre told delegates.
Wyre said that moving in with a single parent was one of the remaining access points to children for sex offenders.
He said: “They can’t gain access through clubs or voluntary groups but they can through single parents.”
He also called on practitioners to watch out for “the new middle class abuser”, who would use their education to challenge and undermine social workers investigating them.
