Often the law appears complex merely because it is poorly explained. As this excellent book demonstrates, it doesn’t have to be that way. In a reader-friendly fashion, this work constructs a seamless outline of the child care system in Scotland, writes Ed Mitchell.

It is only a summary so those who need more specialist knowledge will need to look elsewhere. But for a readable and accurate introduction to the key concepts, this book would be hard to beat. In addition, its compact size means that for specialist practitioners it would still be a worthwhile investment because it can be taken out in the field and used as an aide-memoire.

The book will be of interest not merely to Scottish practitioners because Scottish issues do crop up from time to time (often at short notice) for those working in England and Wales. Each child care team in England and Wales, therefore, ought to have access to basic information on the, at times, very different Scottish system.

To buy this book is probably the best way to do that.
