The public’s misconceptions about social work will be dispelled by a project describing the roles and tasks of the profession, the chief executive of the General Social Care Council has said.
Lynne Berry, speaking as the second phase of the GSCC-led project was launched, said the initiative would help to end the myth held by some members of the public that social work was simply common sense.
“The project will help to do that. Social workers deserve public respect and real recognition of what they achieve. It is absolutely a skilled profession,” she said.
The launch was marked by the publication of a literature review and the report of a stakeholder event held in November.
A public consultation on the roles, tasks and value of social work will be launched in March.
