The English Community Care Association has backed Age Concern’s campaign to double care home residents’ personal expenses allowance, the charity announced today.
Ecca, which represents nearly 3,000 care home providers in England, endorsed calls for the allowance for council-funded residents to rise from £19.60 to £40 a week, to ensure they can meet basic costs.
Ecca chief executive Margin Green said: “The Age Concern campaign has broad support from care providers and we urge the government to increase personal allowances as a matter of urgency.”
The government intends to increase the allowance to £20.45 in April in line with average rises in earnings.
Age Concern launched the campaign in December.
