Plan to dock housing benefit from unruly families curbed

A national scheme to withdraw housing benefit from families evicted for antisocial behaviour was dropped last night from the Welfare Reform Bill.

A pilot in 10 local authorities is to go ahead but it will not now be extended nationally.

“We are delighted that the government has at last seen sense and decided against rolling out this scheme nationally, as part of this bill” said David Orr, chief executive of the National Housing Federation.

A coalition, which includes the federation, Shelter, Turning Point and Citizens Advice, has lobbied for the change.
