Medication in the Care Home
BVS Training,
£195
STAR RATING: 4/5
Even for those of us with things pretty much within our control, taking more than one or two medicines daily requires some organisation, writes Joy Bounds. Operating a system which enables each person in a care home to have the right medication at the right time and in the right way is complex, especially when some people manage their own, but others require varying degrees of assistance.
Any home manager will say that, however good the system is, this is an area of practice where mix-ups and mistakes all too frequently occur. They are sure to welcome this DVD, which in fewer than 40 minutes deals with all aspects, and will assist carers understand their role.
BVS Training, which made the DVD, describes itself as the leading provider of training DVDs for care staff, and this one on medication belongs to their Care Home Induction series, covering areas of good practice for new carers. It can be used for basic awareness training or for full training in the administration of medication.
The tyranny of the medication trolley is long gone, and carers now work with monitored dosage systems in a person-centred way.
The DVD covers, in clear language, good practice as well as legislative and technical information, focusing on the carer's responsibility towards the resident and the importance of meticulous recording.
Additional case studies provide talking points to reinforce learning.
