A website that brings together adults who were in care as children and claims to be the only one of its kind in the world, now has 2,000 members.
The Careleavers Reunited site, which was set up by the Care Leavers' Association in September 2003 and is run by adult care leavers themselves, has seen its membership double over the past year.
Care Leavers’ Association chair Will McMahon said: “Our website has helped to make visible care leavers’ previously invisible need to reconnect with the past. Most of our members come from the adult care leavers in the UK from the 1940s onwards but many are now joining the site from as far away from Australia and north America. Many have fascinating stories to tell about their time in care as children.”
