Whether you want to hear the latest on government policy, or the newest thinking on cutting-edge practice in social care, Community Care Live in London is this week’s must-attend event. 

Apart from the regular mix of debates, workshops and a massive exhibition, there will be several innovations this year including Lifestyle and Comfort Zones providing a range of services from careers and financial advice to stress management.

Four government ministers, including care services minister Ivan Lewis and children’s junior minister Parmjit Dhanda,  leading practitioners and policymakers, and the launch of Community Care’s Life Like Any Other campaign for people with learning disabilities will be among the highlights of the event, which boasts more than 100 speakers and more than 50 debates, seminars and workshops.

Ivan Lewis is expected to talk about the next phase of the government’s plans to drive up standards in social care and endorse the call of our campaign for independent lives for people with learning disabilities. Our campaign will back Lewis’s own call for Valuing People to be carried forward with renewed vigour.

Other highlights include debates on youth justice, the Mental Health Bill, progress on joint working between health and social care, and the rise of the gun culture among children and young people.  Our workshop programme is designed to give social workers specialising in the different client groups the latest developments in their respective fields. 

Community Care Live takes place on 16 and 17 May at the Business Design Centre in Islington.
