Eight out of ten young people have nowhere to go and nothing to do outside school, an inquiry on young people published this week found.
The Make Space Youth Review by children’s charity 4Children found more than half of young people were victims of crime in their own community or had witnessed anti-social behaviour over the last year.
The review called for a youth centre in every community, more support for parents, free access to transport and leisure for all young people under 18, action on bullying, mobile intervention teams and “young mayors” in every area.
The review, which was launched last year, was based on interviews with more than 16,000 young people of all ages.
