Care services minister Ivan Lewis yesterday announced the location of 11 new pilots for talking therapy services for people with common mental health problems.
In May, then health secretary Patricia Hewitt invited expressions of interest for new therapy pilots, to help people with depression and anxiety particularly with finding or retianing work, adding to the two existing pilots in Doncaster and Newham, east London.
The 11 new projects are being backed by £2.2m, much lower than the £3.7m given to the first sites to spend between them over two years. They are all being run by primary care trusts.
The new schemes include a project in Derby to tackle the mental health needs of people from ethnic minority communities and a project in Salford working with women with pre and post-natal mental health problems.
