Last year, face-to-face fundraisers were responsible for recruiting half a million people to donate regularly to charity. But at what cost?
These people may be responsible for bringing in a significant proportion of charities' incomes, but they also help fuel the public's growing cynicism towards the charitable sector.
The very fact that these fundraisers are more often referred to as chuggers - short for charity muggers - is indicative of the low regard in which they are held by many. And they are in danger of dragging the charities they represent down to their level in the public's mind.
