A much lesser known stable mate of the Children’s Fund (qv), the purpose of the fund is to help children and young people in poverty achieve their potential by investing directly in the activities of local community and voluntary groups working with, and for those ages 0-19. With Every Child Matters, grants are now given on the criteria of the White Paper’s five outcomes.

The fund was set up with a budget of £70 million and its grants range from £250 to £7000. The fund works in partnership with voluntary agencies such as community foundations, rural community councils and grant-making trusts to provide an experienced administrator in each local network area. The fund will be wound up in 2008.
