Charities Rethink and Mind have launched a survey of people with mental health problems and their carers on the best ways of tackling stigma, to inform a national campaign on the issue.
The organisations, along with the Institute of Psychiatry in London and Mental Health Media, were given £18m by the Big Lottery Fund and Comic Relief last year to fund a national anti-stigma campaign on mental health, Moving People, which will be launched later this year.
Vanessa Pinfold, director of research at Rethink, said: "The best-placed people to guide an anti-stigma campaign are those who face it every single day of their lives."
She said the campaign would aim to "challenge stigma at work, at home and in public, the length and breadth of the country".
The coalition will send out 25,000 questionnaires, but is also encouraging people to answer the survey online, by 22 February.
