International Federation of Social Workers raise flag for profession

Social workers from around the world are joining together today to celebrate World Social Work Day.
The second annual event is organised by the International Federation of Social Workers, which has nearly half a million members in 84 countries.
Professional bodies in member countries are staging events throughout April to raise awareness of the importance of social work in their countries.

Church services and street drama

These range from church services in Jamaica and the Bahamas to street drama highlighting social issues in Nepal, while in Jordan, Queen Rania Al Abdullah will present awards to distinguished social workers next week.

World Social Work Day follows the 25th annual social work day at the United Nations in New York last month, which was attended by 900 social workers and students, and highlighted the profession’s contribution to upholding the UN Convention on Human Rights.

IFSW president David N Jones said: "World Social Work Day enables us to realise that we belong to a global profession that is active all around the world making a difference."
