Access to drug and alcohol services will be improved as a result of a £54m cash boost, the government said today.

The money will go towards in-patient and residential substance misuse facilities, including provision for women and mothers, disabled people, offenders, ethnic minorities and families.

Public health minister Caroline Flint  said: “This money will provide additional beds and improvements to service quality for some substance misusers with some of the highest levels of need. Better services will bring about better outcomes.”
