London needs city-wide commissioning of social care services for people with HIV to minimise waste, the Terence Higgins Trust said last week.

Responding to a review of the capital's HIV services, the trust said its own research shows funding is patchy and inconsistent, with resources spread too thinly.

The charity is backing the recommendations of the Starfish review of services commissioned by the specialist advisory group for HIV, made up of London's health and local authorities.

"None of the necessary changes in the HIV sector can be achieved without strategic commissioning across London," it says.

It predicts that the main needs to emerge will be for providing legal, welfare, benefits, and immigration advice.
