YoungMinds launches online forum for parents and carers

YoungMinds is giving parents and carers of young people with emotional problems the chance to talk to people in similar situations with the launch of an online forum.

The service from the mental health charity for young people last year will give parents the opportunity to share their experiences and offer advice and support to others.

The forum, which complements the freephone helpline run by YoungMinds, has won the backing of Deidre Sanders, The Sun’s agony aunt.

Deidre's endorsement

Sanders, a member of the Social Work Task Force, said: “If a child is depressed, hearing voices or self-harming , it's a terribly worrying time for parents. Parents often feel they are to blame for their child’s emotional problems and don’t know where to go for help.

“YoungMinds parents helpline provides invaluable support for them, and their new parents' forum will allow parents to share their experiences, offer each other support and help break the isolation they are experiencing."
