Durham Police are leading a multi-agency investigation into the care received by a man at a Darlington care home for people with learning disabilities, which is now set to close.
The 75-year-old man, who lived at the Victoria House care home, died last month from septicemia.
Winnie Care Limited, which runs the home, has given Darlington Council notice that it intends to close Victoria House.
A spokesperson for the authority said: "We are working with staff at Victoria House to ensure high quality alternative placements are found for the 19 residents who live there."
Victoria House was rated good in its last published report by the Commission for Social Care Inspection, which followed an inspection in July 2007.
CSCI found that care was delivered with respect for people's dignity and praised care planning, but said training needed to improve and urged the home to ensure all staff were made aware of local safeguarding adult referral protocols.
The home's management declined to comment on its closure or the investigation.
