A new annual census of school pupils will allow the achievement of pupils from ethnic minorities to be monitored locally and nationally.

The data from the census will be published, giving a clearer picture of how particular groups perform and which schools experience the highest levels of pupil mobility.

A consultation on how to improve the academic achievement of pupils from ethnic minorities was launched last month. Go to www.dfes.gov.uk/consultations2/03/
