A social worker from Barrow-in-Furness has been cautioned by the General Social Care Council for failing to disclose previous criminal convictions and a police caution when registering with the GSCC.

At a conduct hearing this week, the GSCC cautioned Steven McGarry for misconduct and said the failure to disclose was a “serious matter.”

McGarry had continued to practice as an “effective” social worker, and expressed “regret” and apologised to the GSCC for breaching the code of practice for social care workers at the hearing on Wednesday, the GSCC said today.

McGarry’s caution will remain on his entry on the Social Care Register for one year.

He has a right of appeal to the Independent Care Standards Tribunal.
