Two social services directors are bidding to have their refreshed star ratings upgraded.

Kate Page, director of social services at Milton Keynes Council, said her department was "very disappointed" to have received one star in the refreshed ratings published earlier this month.

She said that the department was being penalised as a result of its achievement in one performance indicator. It had written to the Social Services Inspectorate to ask for an upgrade. "We are looking to have it overturned and be moved to the two-star category but it is unlikely."

Bradford Council social services, which had a star taken away, leaving it with just one, has already met the SSI to dispute the grade.
