Robert Coyle, who brought up his daughters in squalor for 10 years, was given an 18-month sentence for child cruelty last week.

Coyle, 32, bred dogs in the home he shared with his daughters, aged 12 and 14. They were taken into care in May when found to be underweight, dirty and suffering from head lice. Judge Richardson said the children had been "appallingly" neglected.

A spokesperson for Camden Council said the family was known to it and information had been passed to the area child protection committee to decide whether a serious case review should be initiated.
