The children of asylum seekers are being provided with a good education and schools often embrace them and their families as an asset, a report by the school inspection body Ofsted has found.

Schools in inner cities are often more proficient at managing the admission of asylum-seeking pupils, as they are used to dealing with high levels of pupil mobility, the report finds.

However, it highlights areas for improvement, including training for school staff in helping pupils with severe psychological distress.

The impact on local education authorities and schools of the location of housing in dispersal areas is rarely thought through properly by the various agencies, it adds.
